How to Get an Echo to Tell You a Room’s Temperature

  1. Check if your Echo device has a built-in temperature sensor. Not all Echo devices have a temperature sensor. Currently, only the Echo Plus (2nd generation) and Echo Show 10 (3rd generation) have this capability. If you have one of these devices, you can proceed to the next steps. If not, you may need to use external temperature sensors or compatible smart home devices to get the temperature readings.

2. Set up your Echo device:

Make sure your Echo device is properly set up and connected to the internet. Follow the instructions provided with your device to complete the setup process.

3. Enable the appropriate skill:

To get the temperature readings from your Echo device, you’ll need to enable a compatible skill. You can do this through the Alexa app or the Alexa Skills Store. For example, you can search for skills like “Temperature Sensor” or “Room Temperature” and choose a skill that suits your needs.

4. Link the skill to your Echo device:

Once you’ve found a suitable skill, follow the instructions to link it to your Echo device. This usually involves signing in with your Amazon account and granting necessary permissions for the skill to access your device’s temperature sensor.

5. Discover devices:

Open the Alexa app and navigate to the “Devices” section. Select “Discover” or “Add Devices” to let Alexa discover and connect to your Echo device’s temperature sensor. This step may vary slightly depending on the specific skill you’re using, so follow the instructions provided by the skill.

6. Ask for the temperature:

Once the skill is linked and the device is discovered, you can simply ask Alexa for the temperature in the room. You can say, “Alexa, what is the temperature?” or “Alexa, what’s the room temperature?”

If your Echo device doesn’t have a built-in temperature sensor, you can explore other options, like purchasing an external smart temperature sensor that’s compatible with Alexa. These sensors can be placed in the desired room, and you can ask Alexa to get the temperature reading from them. Make sure to follow the setup instructions provided with the specific sensor you purchased.
